The real failure of Operation Cast Lead
By destroying Hamas as an effective military force in Gaza and seizing all its weapons, the space would be created for the survival and development of those who are sufficiently moderate to accept the state of Israel and who would be prepared to work for a sensible win-win agreement with it. Crushing Hamas is the indispensable key to begin the process of building a successful moderate political development among the Palestinians.

Incredibly there are numerous voices opposed to such an assault on Hamas. Some claim that it is simply not feasible to stamp out the terror organisations. There is also the familiar truism that there is no solution purely by military means. The function of the platitude often appears to be to deny the use of any military means. If so, it fails to see that the reality is the very opposite: that without military means there will be no political solution....
